With profound sadness, the family of Howard George Stapleton announces his passing on June 19, 2026, at the age of 80. Howard lived a life defined by kindness, creativity, and an unwavering love for the people around him.
Born on February 8, 1946, Howard grew up on the family farm in Orono, where his parents, Everett and Jean Stapleton, nurtured in him a deep appreciation for nature, hard work, and life’s simple joys. He was fortunate to have been loved and supported by his grandmothers, Mary Morris and Neta Patterson; his Aunt Loreen and Uncle Ken Ball; and later by his stepmother, Hazel.
Howard was a devoted husband to Marion Stapleton for 30 wonderful years and a dedicated partner to Ken Hack for 23 years. His heart was expansive, and he shared it generously with his son, Lee Stapleton (Anastasia), and daughter, Laura Iantomasi (Frank). Nothing brought him greater pride than his four cherished grandchildren Leah, Antonio, Reese, and Ella each of whom lit up his world.
He will also be deeply missed by his stepbrother, John Robinson; his cousins, Bonnie Mercer and Susan Hrebicek; many extended family members; and countless relatives and friends with whom he shared laughter, stories, and treasured memories. Howard’s love extended warmly to his beloved “fur family” Boots, Woody, Toad, Jezebel, Chamie, and Bentley who brought him comfort and companionship throughout the years.
Howard’s creativity was boundless. He found joy in gardening, painting, wood carving, knitting, stained glass, and any craft that allowed him to shape beauty with his hands. His passion for life was infectious, and his gentle spirit made him a beloved presence wherever he went. He was endlessly curious always learning, always creating, and always appreciating the world around him.
A lifelong adventurer, Howard loved to travel and embraced every opportunity to explore new places. He delighted in the sights, sounds, and flavours of the world, collecting experiences that enriched his life and broadened his perspective.
Professionally, Howard dedicated more than 40 years to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher at Vincent Massey Public School in Bowmanville. His patience, humour, and compassion left a lasting impact on generations of students, colleagues, and families. Teaching was not just his career it was his calling.
Howard’s legacy is one of love, creativity, generosity, and joy. He touched the lives of many, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honour on Sunday, July 26, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Northview Community Centre, 150 Beatrice Street East, Oshawa. All are welcome to attend and share in celebrating a life so beautifully lived.
