He passed away at the Belleville General Hospital on June 18, 2026 in his 92nd year.
Loving husband of the late Marie McHugh (Merritt) of Clarkson and partner of Ann Crabb of Belleville.
Bruce Charles McHugh will be missed by his daughter Debra Henderson, his granddaughter Cynthia Downs (Greg) and great grandchildren Benjamin and Everleigh.
Bruce was a 2nd class stationary engineer in Toronto where he worked for Loblaws, British American Oil and retired from Ayer Storage. He was quite adept at repairing things and liked to tinker in his workshop. Bruce was an environmentalist and dedicated conservationist who lived by the 3 R’s of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. He was quite proud to own one of the first Teslas in town.
Bruce was an avid road cyclist, riding numerous times a week into his 80’s. He would often attribute his longevity to the fitness he gained from cycling. He continued to cut his grass and shovel his driveway up until this year.
Bruce was kind and generous, and always had a quick one-liner to draw a smile or a chuckle. He will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.
The family will respect his wishes with an intimate family gathering only.
