Born in Southampton, John spent the first half of his life near Elsinore in Bruce County. He grew up working on the family farm alongside his father, whom he considered his best friend. At sixteen, he began a long career with the Ministry of Transportation (M.T.O.), eventually serving as an Area Patrol Supervisor while continuing to farm, raise beef cattle, and even build his own barn and shed.
John and Marion raised their family on the farm, where they enjoyed fishing, camping at Chesley Lake, and curling in Allenford and Owen Sound. Following his retirement from the M.T.O. in 1988, John and Marion lived in Port Elgin and Paris before settling in Everett. In retirement, they traveled the world and spent winters in Texas. John eventually turned his focus to his vegetable garden and took great pride in maintaining his home and lawn. He was also an avid Euchre player, known for his thoughtful strategy and occasional risk-taking.
John was a quiet, steadfast, and hardworking man. Though reserved, he possessed a perfectly timed sense of humor that could brighten any room. We invite you to remember John with a smile and a quiet heart, honoring the meaningful life he led.
