Peacefully, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Port Perry, at age 93. William Hanna, loving husband of Marilyn (nee Dickson) of Port Perry, for 70 years. Dear father of Michael (Pamela Harrison) of Bowmanville, Karen Lepine (deceased) of Oshawa, and Sharon Carmichael of Port Perry. Proud grandfather to his 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

 

Bill’s career was with the Ontario Provincial Police for 36 years beginning in Thunder Bay, Nipigon, and Geraldton, and ending in Whitby as Detachment Commander. He also spent 10 years in Peterborough after transferring there from Geraldton in 1958. After retiring from the OPP, Bill, along with another fellow Metro Police Officer, was instrumental in setting up the Law and Security course at Durham College, where he was a professor for 5 years. Bill loved camping, curling, biking, golfing, and walking over the years. He also loved listening to music and reading.

 

The family of William Hanna will receive friends at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) on Wednesday, August 12th from 10 – 11 a.m. A Service to celebrate his life will be held in the Chapel at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Clinker officiating. Interment Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens, Whitby. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Port Perry United Church or a charity of your choice.
