September 3, 1943 – May 22, 2026

des moore surrey bc obituary
He was born and raised in Northern Ireland, eventually attending Queen’s University Belfast where he met his future wife, Marion. His main claim to fame during his university years was being arrested for climbing the Albert Memorial Clock tower. He also managed to earn a Civil Engineering degree that would spawn his lifelong career.

His career started in London, England. He married Marion in 1969 and emigrated to Canada in 1970. He and Marion then had two children, Fiona and Richard.

Des Moore’s career as an Engineer included a variety of projects including ski lift foundations, ferry terminal ramps, reaction ferries and the 2010 Olympic ski jumps. He always loved an Engineering challenge and sketched out designs for all sorts of contraptions.

Post-retirement, Des enjoyed 20+ years of good health, golf, playing Bridge, sailing, and guitar lessons. He loved puttering on his sailboat and designing/building kayaks in his garage. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter and by his good friends of many years.

He wrote his own epitaph:

I have lived here

Surely one will remember me

I have died here

Surely one will grieve

I have loved here

Surely one has loved me

Will one man bow his head

As I quietly take my leave?
